And, while we may be big, we don’t overlook the details. And, while we may be big, we don’t overlook the details. We’re continuously improving and investing in our resorts, lodging properties and other lines of business in order to provide our guests and our employees with an Experience of a Lifetime, conserve our natural resources and better the communities in which we operate.
Our Company
- We’ve invested more than $600 million in capital improvements across our portfolio in the last 6 years.
- You’ll find us operating some of the world’s most iconic mountain resorts, lodging properties, retail outlets, transportation and real estate across nine states and three countries:
- United States: Mountain resorts, hospitality and retail operations in Colorado, Utah, California, Nevada, Minnesota, Michigan, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming
- Australia: Perisher
- Canada: Whistler Blackcomb
- This year we expect to sell more than 650,000 Epic Passes, in all 50 states and 104 countries, a pass that has revolutionized the ski industry and encouraged others to follow suit. Cheers to that, we say!
- We’ve launched six generations of our industry-leading, award-winning mobile app, EpicMix. We’ll take free pictures to make your friends at home jealous, size you up in a little healthy competition, tell you how long the wait is at your favorite lift and even let you race against Olympic champion skier and hometown favorite, Lindsey Vonn, in EpicMix Racing.
- Our hearts are in winter sports, but we’re out enjoying our mountains 365 days a year and we want you to as well. This is why we’ve introduced Epic Discovery, our new summer program that will define the on-mountain summer experience at our resorts, immersing guests in exciting outdoor adventure and emphasize our natural environment with learn-through-play activities.
Our Mountains
- We own and operate 11 mountain resorts and three urban ski areas across eight states and three countries. That’s right; we’re the first mountain resort operator to go global.
- 340 chairlifts will save you from needing to ‘earn your turns’ across more than 43,000 acres and down more than 33,000 vertical feet; however, if you’re into that kind of thing, we can arrange that too through Expedition: Kirkwood, Breck Guides or Keystone Adventure Tours.
- In 2015-2016, we connected Park City Mountain Resort with the former Canyons Resort to unveil the largest ski resort in the United States (Park City) with 7,300 acres of skiing and riding.
- Mother Nature bestows up to 355 inches of snow upon several of our resorts every year; however, if we’re experiencing some of our legendary bluebird days, our vast state-of-the-art snowmaking systems can step in and play their part.
- Our team lives for powder days, but if it’s not your thing, or the thought alone has your ski legs fatigued, we’re grooming 1,000+ acres of terrain for you every night at some of our resorts.
- Across our resorts, we host about six, annual championship events, including the Birds of Prey Men’s World Cup Ski Races at Beaver Creek, the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships at Vail and snowboarding’s Dew Tour at Breckenridge.
- Don’t be alarmed if you find yourself riding up the chairlift with a canine companion – they’re seasoned pros. We have more than 40 ski patrol dogs on staff across our mountain resorts and they’re the best in the biz.
Our Properties
- We own or operate more than 30 lodging properties with an approximate key count of 4,500 – including those at the base of our ski resorts, and Jenny Lake Lodge, Jackson Lake Lodge, Colter Bay Village and Headwaters Lodge at Flagg Ranch in the stunning Grand Teton National Park.
- Stay with us at one of Grand Teton Lodge Company’s four iconic properties and explore 310,000 acres in Grand Teton National Park, part of the largest intact temperate ecosystem in the world.
- Dine with us at one of approximately 140 restaurants on our mountain resorts and in our lodging properties.
- We’ve fulfilled countless “ahhhh” moments in our seven spas
- We source up to 75 percent of our food locally at some of our restaurants and, when you take into account our greenhouse at 9600’ Kitchen in Breckenridge, five on-site gardens and foraging chefs at Grand Teton Lodge Company, one may even say we’re breaking into hyper-local.
- Our 30 concierges are elevating countless marriage proposals, birthday celebrations and other special moments.
Our People
- We have a workforce of more than 30,000 brave, ambitious and passionate employees across the Company who get to match what they love with what they do. More than half of them are millennials! Want to challenge the status quo? Join us: https://jobs.vailresortscareers.com!
- We’re driven by six core values: Serve Others, Do Right, Drive Value, Do Good, Be Safe and Have Fun. We hold ourselves accountable for living these every day, in everything that we do.
- Vail Resorts considers every employee a leader. While we offer four distinguished leadership camps for high-performing leaders and an annual leadership summit for more than 700 of the senior leaders from around the company, we also provide a significant focus on opportunities for each employee to develop as a leader. We’ve created an expectation that the Company's leaders open themselves up to an honest journey of leadership development, which makes our collective environment a much more direct, honest, understanding and supportive place to work.
Our EpicPromise
- We operate in some of the world’s greatest natural environments, so we feel compelled to care for and preserve them. We work to achieve this in four areas:
- Water conservation | Every year, more than 80 percent of water used in snowmaking returns to the watershed. We’ve established resort-level Water Management Plans to protect our local streams and rivers from any irregularities from our operations.
- Recycling & Reuse | Across our resorts, more than 40 percent of waste is diverted through a combination of composting, recycling and material reuse. And we’re building on those programs and working with vendors to reduce waste with an eye on zero waste in the future.
- Energy Conservation | As a company, we’ve already reduced our energy use by 10 percent (that’s enough energy to power more than 2,600 U.S. households for one year!) and we’re just getting started. We’re on a journey to reduce it by another 10 percent before 2020.
- Protecting the Forests, Habitats and Wildlife | We’ve deployed more than 9,800 volunteers who have given more than 87,000 volunteer hours to support 58 projects in the forests that surround our resorts. Additionally, our partnership with the National Forest Foundation has raised millions for projects to restore and improve those same forests. Additionally, through our 1 % guest donation program, we raised over $788,000 in 2016 to go towards environmental stewardship projects managed in partnership with local organizations.
- This season, Vail Resorts will give approximately $8.6M to more than 250 non-profit partners in our resort communities.
- Our annual EpicPromise day leaves an incredible impact in our communities. In 2016, 2,000 employees donated more than 8,000 volunteer hours to support 13 projects to build and improve trails, restore public lands, revamp local youth organizations and improve vital stream systems across the country.
- In 2015, we formed the EpicPromise Foundation to support our employees and their families in times of need, as well as offer educational scholarships. We anticipate that $750,000 in grants will be awarded each fiscal year.
- Not only are we investing in our employees, but also the future. Over the past six years, we have awarded 193 scholarships to promising college-bound students across the Vail Resorts resort communities.
Our Retail
- We are the premier mountain retail company supporting the guests of Vail Resorts providing the gear, education, and services to help create the Experience of a Lifetime™.
- We own and operate more than 230 retail outlets and rental locations in five geographic regions. We are the leader in North America for the number of resorts-based ski and rental stores – managing over 50 different brands, including Vail Resorts Retail-developed stores and branded concept stores alike - such as Helly Hansen, Patagonia, SmartWool, The North Face and our first very own branded retail store, Epic Mountain Gear, in Frisco, Colorado. We also operate several brands located in urban markets in the Colorado Front Range and Northern California markets.
- Across all of our stores, we carry several hundred of the industry’s best brands that can outfit you for an endless number of outdoor activities – from our core of skiing and snowboarding, to biking, hiking, camping, running, paddle sports, fly-fishing and so much more. Whatever the season, or your reason for getting outdoors, we’ve got you covered.
Our Transport
- Together, our Colorado Mountain Express (CME) team touts more than 950 years of professional driving experience. Even more than that, they’ll go through 7,200 hours of safety training this year alone.
- Since 1983, CME vehicles have driven more than 32,000,000 miles combined (the equivalent of 127 trips to the moon!) along the I-70 corridor. At the risk of sounding cliché, they know it like the back of their hand, and will get you where you need to go safely and on-time.
- If occasionally “working remotely” means heading to Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge or Keystone, don’t fret. All of Colorado Mountain Express’ vehicles are equipped with free Wi-Fi to keep you connected en route, so you can enjoy yourself upon arrival.
- Our fleet of 85 Mercedes Sprinter vehicles (the largest Sprinter fleet in Colorado) is saving more than 1.4 million pounds of carbon emissions every year, which helps us do our part in keeping the I-70 corridor pristine.
